NEUTRON SOURCE
Accelerators supply the highest possible flux and flux density neutron sources available. Typically, the accelerator based sources use a fixed target irradiated by a proton or deuteron beam. The European Spallation Source ESS uses a 2 GeV Proton beam to produce up to 1e18 Neutrons per second as the strongest neutron source possible using accelerator technology.
With energies in the MeV region our neutron sources can produces fluxes in the order of a few neutrons per second up to 1e13 Neutrons per second. Scaling of the ion current, the ion energy and the projectile and target species enables varying the neutron flux and its spectrum.
